Invitation to Schools

We are excited to share with you that the Essex Youth Orchestra will be presenting a magical live performance for families and schools in December.

The concert will be an interactive introduction to the world of orchestral music include excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and then the music reimagined by jazz legend Duke Ellington.  The performance sets out with ‘Sleigh ride’ and the concert concludes with a favourite festive song, accompanied by the full orchestra.

Your pupils will see musicians perform live, discover the sounds and colours of the orchestra and to sing along with the musicians.  There is also an opportunity for your school choir to perform as part of the public performances in the evening.

How can we be involved?

Watch a performance:  Join us for a school’s performance in the afternoon where we will introduce pupils to the orchestra in an interactive session. We will also provide you with activities and lesson ideas to prepare your pupils for the performance and to continue the adventure back at school.

Sing at a performance: We are looking for school choirs to perform some of the songs in our ‘Christmas Fantasia’ at the public performances. Pupils will sing backed by a full symphony orchestra and part of a truly wonderful live-music experience for them and their families.

What to do now?

There is no cost for Essex DfE funded schools to take part in this opportunity, either for to watch the performance or for choirs to take part.  There will be a cost for parents to attend the performance in the evening and you will need to arrange transport to the event.
