Royal Opera House Create and Sing Programme Comes to Essex & the BBC Proms 2020
Create and Sing is the Royal Opera Houses’s national education programme offering free training days and resources to KS 1-3 teachers, enabling them to explore and create opera in the classroom. ROH is collaborating with the Essex Music Education Hub and will be hosting 2 free CPD days across Essex in March, where teachers are invited to come and explore the Create and Sing programme and all that it offers.
Our specialist drama and music practitioners will spend the day guiding you through our new Create and Sing Hansel & Gretel scheme of work (KS1-KS2) and sharing some skills and approaches to bringing this opera to life in the classroom.
The Create and Sing programme develops skills in singing, drama, storytelling, characterization and music, with songs which have been adapted for primary-aged voices. We provide free scores and backing tracks for learning and performance via the online ROH Learning Platform. No musical training is required to deliver this programme, so absolutely all educators are welcome! To see Create and Sing in action, watch our short summary video.
In the summer term, we will be arranging sharing sessions in Essex where pupils can come and perform what they have been learning in their classrooms accompanied by live musicians. There will also be a chance for all pupils involved to join in a massed singing workshop. Please watch out for dates, venues and more information coming soon.
To ensure as many Essex based teachers are able to access this free training, we are running the CPD day in 2 locations across the county.
Places are free of charge and limited so we recommend booking your place asap via the Eventbrite links below:
BBC Proms! We are excited to announce the ROH is teaming up with the BBC Proms this summer and will be forming a Create and Sing Children’s chorus from children participating in Create and Sing projects from schools in Essex and London!
Whilst we are unable to give full details about the content of the Prom until April 2020, we can say it will be a unique and highly memorable opportunity for all involved. We will be working with schools to identify children who have blossomed through participating in Create and Sing projects, and who are able to commit to the full rehearsal schedule for the Prom. The full rehearsal schedule will be made available this Spring, but participating children will need ensure they are available from the 26th – 29th August.
This will be an exciting moment to celebrate the hard work and achievements of children from London and Essex Create and Sing projects. To register your school’s interest in this opportunity please email: createandsing@roh.org.uk
